Experiences Beyond the Classroom: Kinesiology

Research

There are many opportunities for you to be involved in the groundbreaking research occurring in the Kinesiology undergraduate program. For example, you could assist with the biomechanics, exercise physiology, neuroscience, women’s health, or public health and wellness research that our faculty members are making progress in regularly.

As an undergraduate, you can assist with data collection, follow through with protocols, test procedures, or even publishing and presenting at national conferences.

The opportunities in research are vast and can be for credit as an independent study course or simply to gain valuable experience in research techniques and processes.

Internships

As a Kinesiology student, you will have the opportunity to participate in a number of courses designed to set you up for a successful internship. You will have the chance to learn about the internship possibilities and polish your professional skills in the classroom and through field experiences onsite at different professional locations. As the capstone internship experience, you will have the opportunity to spend an entire semester working onsite at any number of internship sites, including many professional sports teams, non-profit organizations, private and commercial fitness facilities, corporate wellness sites, sports training facilities, adventure and outdoor camps, and state-of-the-art research facilities at University Park.

With Penn State’s large alumni network and the Department of Kinesiology’s professional connections to internship sites throughout the nation, we can help you find the best internship option for you and your career goals.

Study Abroad

If you are interested in studying abroad, students in Kinesiology can choose to explore London, England, through the Department’s summer abroad course. This amazing opportunity focuses on sports and history and includes exploring the cultures and experiences found in London. If you are interested in learning more about Europe and the different perspectives available internationally, the study abroad opportunity in Kinesiology might be a good option for you.
