- Gerard Hoefling, Ph.D. (2001), current Director of Drexel University’s Academic Advising Support has been named Director of Drexel University’s, Drexel Autism Support Program. In addition, The University of Warsaw, the top ranked university in Poland, recently recognized and honored Dr. Hoefling for his work within the Warsaw International Studies in Psychology (WISP) graduate program. Dr. Hoefling was named Best Guest Lecturer 2015 and in earlier years as well.
- Mary Lai, Ph.D. (2013) recently started in a newly created position, Director of Service Learning and Civic Engagment at Florida State College, Jacksonville, FL. Her role is to deepen and embed service learning within the curriculum across the five campuses and two centers.
- Deborah Temkin (HDFS, Ph.D., 2012) received a grant funded by the National Institutes for Justice. Dr. Temkin wrote the grant and is PI on the grant titled, "Improving School Safety in the District of Columbia: Evaluating the Safe School Certification Program". Rebecca Madill (HDFS, Ph.D., 2014) will also be working on the grant.
- Tara Stoppa (HDFS, Ph.D., 2009) received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor at Eastern University.
- Robert Milardo (HDFS, Ph.D., 1982) recently published a book titled, "Crafting Scholarship in the Behaivoral and Social Sciences: Writing, Reviewing, and Editing."
- Greta (Barry) Winbush, (HDFS, Ph.D.) recently received full professorship at Central State University in Ohio. Dr. Winbush says, "I obtained such a strong foundation at PSU of students working with faculty researchers that I’m trying to replicate those bountiful experiences with CSU students—both undergraduate and graduate." She received an NIH, NIDDK on her Health Empowerment pilot project. Her research involves using technology to improve doctor-patient relationships among African-Americans.
- Meghan Gillen (HDFS, Ph.D., 2006) recently received tenure and was promoted to associate professor at Penn State Abington.
- Erin Hiley Sharp (HDFS Ph.D., 2006) won the University of New Hampshire, College of Health & Human Services Teaching Excellence Award. Congratulations Erin!
- Manfred Diehl (HDFS Ph.D., 1991) received a Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Bonn, Germany. This award allows Dr. Diehl to work with German colleagues on his research program related to Awareness of Age-Related Change (AARC), including work on how we can change middle-aged and older adults' negative views of aging to promote healthy and successful aging. Dr. Diehl is Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Colorado State University.
- Eric Porfelli (HDFS Ph.D., 2004) was recently promoted to Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Admissions in the College of Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Dr. Porfelli is also a tenured Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine.
- Elizabeth Fauth (HDFS Ph.D., 2005) received tenure and promotion to Associate Professor at Utah State University.
- Mark Ginsberg (HDFS Ph.D., 1981), dean of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, became chair of the Board of Directors of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) on March 1. During his one-year term, Ginsberg will lead the Board in developing new policies and programs and will serve as a spokesperson for the Association. WEBSITE ANNOUNCEMENT

- Shannon Jarrott (HDFS PhD, 1999) has been named a co-recipient of Gernerations United's Brabazon Award for Evaluation Research. This distinction recognizes significant contributions to the field of evaluation research in the intergenerational field. The award was given based on a recent paper she co-authored in The Gerontologist, "Complement of Research and Theory in Practice: Contact Theory at Work in Non-Familial Intergenerational Programs." Jarrott currently is an associate professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

- Mark Ginsberg (HDFS PhD, 1981), executive director and CEO of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), has been appointed dean of Mason’s College of Education and Human Development, effective Aug. 1.
- Kira Birditt (2002) won the Early Career Award from the Society for the Study of Human Development.
- Megan Patrick (2008) holds the Ruth L. Kirschstein Nation Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Post-Doctoral Fellowship (NIAAA). Megan has accepted a position with the University of Michigan's SRC Faculty Research Fellows Program. She plans a research career focused on prevention and developmental science that informs health promotion efforts designed to reduce the negative effects of substance use. Her research interests center on the etiology and prevention of substance use behaviors among adolescents and young adults.
- Erin Sharp (2006) has accepted a new position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Studies at the University of New Hampshire. The position provides a joint appointment between Family Studies and the Carsey Institute, a new research center that conducts policy-relevant research focused on vulnerable children, youth, and families.
- Stephanie Lanza (HDFS PhD, 2003) received the Society for Prevention Research ECPN Early Career Award
- Joseph Gaugler, Ph.D. (1999), Associate Professor, School of Nursing, Center on Aging, and Coordinator of Research Initiatives, Center for Gerontological Nursing, University of Minnesota, was awarded the McKnight Presidential Fellow Award, which is awarded to 5-6 faculty at University of Minnesota who were most recently granted tenure. The award is to recognize their accomplishments and support their ongoing research and scholarship.
- Heather Helms (HDFS PhD, 2000) received the Senior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the School of Human and Environmental Sciences, University of North Carolina – Greensboro
