Associate/Full Professor in Global Health
The College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University seeks applications for a tenure-line professor or associate professor in global health. We seek candidates with a robust global health research agenda that includes a record of extramurally funded research, established collaborations and partnerships in global health, a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary perspectives, and strong leadership, teaching and mentorship skills. Ideal candidates will have a central focus in nutritional sciences or biobehavioral health but may also come from other disciplines that address biological, physiological, psychological, sociocultural, environmental, medical, public health, or other related areas in global health research. The successful candidate’s research expertise should complement and strengthen core interests of faculty in the College. These interests span the spectrum from basic to applied sciences, with foci in maternal and child health, nutrition, communicable and non-communicable diseases, health disparities and determinants, and aging. The appointment will be in the Department of Nutritional Sciences (nutrition.hhd.psu.edu) or the Department of Biobehavioral Health (bbh.hhd.psu.edu); both are internationally known for faculty expertise in interdisciplinary, translational health research. Transdisciplinary approaches are applied to understanding health through examining the intersection of biological, behavioral, social/cultural, and environmental factors. Faculty within both departments are currently applying these approaches to global health research conducted in locations such as South East Asia, Africa, and South America. Additionally, BBH is home to a university-wide minor in global health that provides students with supervised fieldwork at international locations. Both departments also have strong graduate programs including a premier ranking by the National Research Council. Collaborative opportunities abound not only in these two departments but in other departments within the College and across the University. Multiple research centers are housed in the College and there are also strong links with University-wide centers. The College is also home to the Pan Institution Network for Global Health (www.pinghealth.global/) and the University Park campus recently became a regional home to Penn State’s College of Medicine with growing graduate programs in medicine and public health. The successful applicant will be expected to continue and build upon his/her already established extramurally funded research program, to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to provide service appropriate with Penn State’s mission as a land grant university. A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, MD and/or equivalent) is required. Applications from members of underrepresented groups including women and ethnic minorities are encouraged. To apply, interested candidates should complete an online application and upload 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) teaching and research statements, and 4) the names, titles, and complete contact information for three professional references. Inquiries may be sent to Laura E. Murray-Kolb, PhD, Chair of the Search Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please indicate “Global Health Search” in the subject line of the email correspondence and cc: the message to Miranda Bair (email@example.com). Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive, commensurate with background and experience. An attractive benefits package is available.
