Graduate Student Receives Health Administration Fellowship

(University Park, Pa) — Joshua L. Malecki, a student in the master of health administration program at Penn State, has received a fellowship to study at the Veterans Affairs Western New York Healthcare System in Buffalo, New York (VAWNYHS).
The Buffalo facility, one of two in the VAWNYHS system, is the main referral center for cardiac surgery, cardiology and comprehensive cancer care for central and western New York and northern Pennsylvania. The facility, which was opened in 1950, provides a range of medical, surgical, mental health and long-term care services through a full range of inpatient and outpatient programs.
During his year-long fellowship, Malecki will work with members of the senior administration on ensuring regulatory compliance on the proposed expansion of services at the hospital, as well as the planning and implementation of new quality improvement processes.
Malecki, the son of Robert and Linda Malecki of Binghamton, New York, received his bachelorís degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Penn State in 2002. He is currently a member of the Penn State Master of Health Administration Association, the American Public Health Association and the student chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Malecki is also a former member and assistant coach of the Penn State varsity menís gymnastics team.
