Research Interests

Broadly, I am interested in understanding the bidirectional role of immunity and inflammation in the pathogenesis of depression. More specifically, I am interested in investigating the functional biomarkers involved in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of depression, the anti-inflammatory properties of antidepressants, and the use of anti-inflammatory medication as a treatment approach in depression. There is no clinically approved biological marker in major depression to predict response rate or treatment-resistance. Identifying biological markers in major depression is desirable since it may help clinicians to predict responders versus non-responders, prescribe the appropriate pharmacological therapy, and personalize treatment.
