An undergraduate teaching intern (UGTI) is a student who collaborates with a faculty member to assist with a course of interest. UGTIs generally assist with simple grading, class preparation, facilitating and monitoring student participation, and assisting the instructor on exam days; however, specific responsibilities will vary for each instructor and will be discussed at the start of the internship.

Serving as a UGTI gives you the opportunity to develop a variety of professional and leadership skills, including collaborating with instructors and peers, communicating clearly with others, and balancing priorities and deadlines. UGTIs often develop positive relationships with course instructors and fellow UGTIs, which can lead to opportunities for mentorship and recommendation letters.
