College response to the ModernThink Staff Engagement Survey
Sponsor: Craig J. Newschaffer, Raymond E. and Erin Stuart Schultz Dean, College of Health and Human Development
Focus Area #1: Staff Well-being
Opportunity Statement: HHD hopes to positively impact staff well-being by evaluating and assessing current work-life balance initiatives and communication channels within the college.
Action: Review and assess HHD Flexible Work Arrangement Guidelines (FWA) and communicate widely throughout the college.
Intended Outcome: Assure HHD guidelines reflect current college needs, and that they are communicated widely and are being appropriately implemented.
Implementation: Leadership and Human Resources review of FWA guidelines. Will consider input from HHD Staff Advisory Council
Measure: Improved responses on next ModernThink survey; recommend at least one HHD specific survey prior to next 2027 ModernThink survey to compare results.
Action: Evaluate and implement staff communication mechanisms for increased information sharing and opportunities to provide input and have voices heard
Intended Outcome: Improved communication with staff and increased opportunities for staff input within the college.
Implementation: Engage and leverage HHD Staff Advisory Council to provide suggestions for mechanisms to share information with staff and for staff to provide input (all staff meetings, department staff meetings, etc.)
Measure: Increased opportunities for staff to communicate and engage with college leadership; Increased opportunities for staff to provide input for consideration on major initiatives within the college.
Focus Area #2: Collaboration
Opportunity Statement: HHD would like to create increased opportunities for collaboration and resource sharing within the college.
Action: Opportunities for collaboration, resource sharing and networking within the college.
Intended Outcome: Increased opportunities for sharing resources across similar job profiles and departments; increased opportunities to collaborate within the college to create new resources and improve existing processes and resources.
Implementation: Identify areas or profiles impacted by recent organizational changes (administrative support, finance, etc.) to provide both time and connections for sharing of resources, best practices, relationship building and networking.
Measure: Increased awareness of resources, best practices, policy and procedure, as well as better understanding of the network and shared resources across HHD. Also, better awareness of the structures that are already in place in HHD.
Focus Area #3: Recognition
The focus on the earlier two action items is expected to directly impact recognition for HHD staff. University initiatives regarding performance management should result in improved feedback and recognition of our staff.
