The Fran and Holly Soistman Faculty Development Award honors a faculty member’s engagement in significant, innovative research related to the design, development, delivery, administration or evaluation of health care services.

Purpose

This award is intended to honor a member of the faculty of the College of Health and Human Development or the College of Nursing who is engaged in significant, innovative research related to the design, development, delivery, administration, or evaluation of health care services.

Criteria

All full-time tenured or tenure-eligible faculty members in the College of Health and Human Development and the College of Nursing at The Pennsylvania State University are eligible to apply for the “Fran and Holly Soistman Award.”

Usage

Funds may be used for, but not limited to, registration for professional development conferences, research equipment, specialized software, travel, and supplies for professional activities. Funds must be used in a single fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Following the year of their award, each recipient will submit to the Dean a brief narrative overview outlining how the funds have been used to further their professional development.

Application Procedure

Faculty who wish to apply for funding through the endowment shall submit the following:

1. A one-page proposal that describes (1) the applicant’s program of research; (2) the proposed activity and its implications for the applicant’s professional development; and (3) the amount of funding sought
2. An up-to-date curriculum vitae
3. A letter of support and endorsement from the department head or school director of the academic unit in which the candidate holds his or her primary appointment

Selection

A committee, appointed by the Dean of the College of Health and Human Development, will make recommendations to the Dean regarding the selection of recipients.

Frequency

Past recipients are not eligible for a period of three years.

Award

Two recipients will be selected to receive up to $2,700 each. Funds may be used for, but not limited to, registration for professional development inferences, research equipment, travel, and supplies for professional activities. Following the year of their award, each recipient will submit to the Dean a brief narrative overview outlining how the gift has been used to further their healthcare-related research.

Deadline
