Authentication Time-Out

There is currently an issue impacting authentication with university systems and services. Some services impacted are wireless, WebAccess, UCS, and chat. Staff from Enterprise Information Technology are looking into the issue. They will post updates as they become available. See: for more information.


Phishing E-Mails

The Penn State e-mail system has been and is currently receiving a large amount of phishing e-mails. These e-mails are fake warnings, alerts, account lockouts and other various somewhat concerning messages.

To report a phishing e-mail and learn more about phishing, please visit:

ISS does not have access to the e-mail systems at Penn State so we are limited in what we can do to prevent the messages in the first place. E-mail is a central IT service and they work with the people at the Office of Information Security directly to deal with these situations.

Please use caution while checking e-mail. Delete any messages that you're not expecting or seem odd. When in doubt, check with ISS before clicking any links in suspect e-mails. If you have already clicked a link and entered your username and password, be sure to change it immediately at [Click "Change your password" from the top left menu.]


Malicious Email Being Sent

There is a malicious email being sent to Penn State faculty and staff containing a Google Doc link. If you receive this email, simply delete it. If you clicked on the link, please contact ISS at 865-4636 or email


Potentially Malicious E-mail Warning

An e-mail is going around from "PSU.EDU MEMBER SERVICE", asking you to click on the link contained in the e-mail. The subject of the email is, "You have one new message from Pennsylvania State University". In this e-mail, there is a "View message" link to a website. This website takes you to a non-Penn State site, where they will try and fool you into entering your PSU credentials. Do not enter this information.

Please do not open this e-mail and delete immediately. If you have already opened the e-mail and clicked on the link, please contact ISS at 865-4636.


Phishing Email Alert

A suspicious email has been floating around with a few different subjects: "Security Issues" and "Urgent Issue". The email is being sent from "" and "". The body of the email instructs you to "Secure Your Account". It will then take you to a website where it wants you to enter your username and password. If you hover over the link, you can see that it actually takes you to a non-PSU website. Penn State and ISS will never ask you to enter your password in an email.

This email has been sent to a number of Penn State employees, so please be vigilant while navigating your inbox today. If you replied to the email and entered your credentials, please contact ISS at 865-4636 or email
