The CRC is a service unit of the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).

Penn State University is taking bold steps to innovate its biomedical research and education enterprise through the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Our long-range vision is to develop, implement and evaluate methods that better predict, prevent and treat human disease.

CTSI Goals

  1. Catalyze interdisciplinary collaboration and novel approaches to predict, prevent and treat disease.
  2. Provide access to investigators across the university to resources that enhance and rigorously evaluate the impact of clinical and translational research.
  3. Train a new generation of health professionals and investigators that is fluent across diverse and emerging disciplines, sensitive to the overarching purpose of health research, and equipped to successfully deal with socioeconomic and ethical issues that arise when technological capabilities and the society’s imperatives meet with economic constraints.
  4. Share and disseminate data, discoveries, and new knowledge with health practitioners, other institutions, and the community at large.

CTSI Programs and Services

The CTSI offers a variety of services for investigators at Penn State, including:

  • Biostatistics and research design support
  • Informatics tools, including Profiles (faculty directory and collaboration tool), REDCap (secure, web-based application to support data capture), and i2b2 (cohort identification, retrospective data analysis, and hypothesis generation)
  • Community-engaged research resources
  • Ethics consultation
  • Pilot funding opportunities
  • Study participant recruitment and clinical research support
  • Dual-title PhD program in Clinical and Translational Science; support for pre-doctoral students (TL1 program) and early-career investigators (KL2 program)
