Master's in High Performance Sport
Prepare to Lead in the World of High Performance Sport
Performance at the highest level depends on more than innate athletic performance. It is built through the integration of evidence-based practice, data and technology systems, and coaching expertise.
High-performance sport helps athletes consistently reach their peak performance when it matters most. It brings together strength and conditioning, sport science, nutrition, mental performance, and more into one coordinated system. High-performance sport is a discipline where evidence-based practice meets innovation, optimizing every aspect of human performance, from physical conditioning to recovery and mental resilience.
Built for the Reality of Modern Sport
Penn State's Master's in High Performance Sport (HPS) is designed to prepare students for the elite athletic environments they want to work in. This interdisciplinary, hands-on program prepares students to become leaders who bridge the gap between research and real-world performance.
Students are embedded as performance practitioners within Penn State's Intercollegiate Athletics for two full years. Working directly with athletes, coaches, and staff, students apply what they learn through their coursework in real time, integrating physiology, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition, and data science to support better decision-making in high-performance settings.
Students in the HPS program graduate with the knowledge and applied experience to excel in elite sport environments from day one.
