Hello Alumni Mentors and Student Protégés:

A web search for “motivational” returns 18,700,000 results. Inspirational quotes, stickers, posters, books, speakers, etc. are prolific. Occasionally, you will hear or read one that stands out and inspires you to share it with others. Steven Wagman ’82 HPA shared a quote that motivated him. Wagman inspires others in numerous capacities as an alumni mentor, Alumni Council member, Alumni Admissions volunteer, and Special Olympics volunteer to name a few. He understands the value of inspiring others and sharing his knowledge and passions when volunteering his time on campus and in his community.

Student protégé Kenya Crawford ’15 HDFS, a recent Human Development and Family Studies graduate, uses her passions and experiences to inspire those on campus and internationally. Crawford traveled to the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa last summer to represent the Penn State Chapter of the Keep a Child Alive program, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing treatment and support services to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. She used her work in Cape Town to help to shape interventions and programs hosted by the Penn State Chapter of Keep a Child Alive.

Becoming part of the Alumni Mentoring Program is an opportunity for both mentors and protégés to help and inspire each other. Discuss what motivates you to help others. Do you volunteer, if so, what organizations or activities do you support? Do you have a motivational phrase or person that inspires you?
