Community Food Security Club
1 in 6 Americans faces hunger. Penn State’s Community Food Security Club (CFS) is committed to raising awareness of the hunger and food insecurity faced by 50 million Americans. Through educational campaigns concerning the existing barriers to eating nutritious, locally-produced food and community service projects, we aim to spread conscious eating habits to the Penn State and State College communities, assist in the support of a local food system, and support those facing food insecurity.
- Creating Recipe/Nutrition Cards for Philipsburg Food Bank patrons
- Partnering with Student Farm Initiative to create a student farm at Penn State
- Hosting documentary screenings on relevant food issues
- Food Waste Mapping Project
- Volunteer at events like State College Crop Walk and PASA Conference
- Thanksgiving Food Drive
This semester, we are partnering with Student Farm and attending their meetings each week, with the exception of the first Thursday of every month, where we focus on our CFS-specific projects.
