Declaring a Major/Minor
Researching Majors
Students exploring a major within the College of Health and Human Development are encouraged to consult with an academic adviser from the Center for Student Advising and Engagement.
In addition to meeting with an adviser, students researching a major should consider the following information:
Overview of Majors and Careers in Health and Human Development
The College of Health and Human Development's Undergraduate Education site contains information essential to understanding the mission and some of the possible career areas of majors within the college. In addition to academics and possible careers, the site provides a summary of experiences beyond the classroom by major. The Overview information is a great place to start as you begin exploring the College of Health and Human Development at Penn State.
Courses and Other Requirements
An introductory course for a major is designed to offer a broad overview of the subject, and is a great way to learn the essential concepts. This fundamental approach may be highly engaging, but will it continue? In addition to reviewing introductory courses for a major, researching upper level (300/400 level) courses will provide you with a perspective on topics that you will encounter if you continue in the major. You can also view the topics of supporting courses for the major to determine your level of interest. The Course Catalog is accessible in LionPATH, which lists courses and descriptions.
Current Suggested Academic Plans
Current Suggested Academic Plans can be used as a guide on how to complete a major within eight semesters. These should be used in consultation with an academic adviser to develop a long-range plan of your own.
