Receiving a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology, Frey served in the Naval ROTC, in Operation Blue and Gold and was the president of the Future Naval Officers Association. She was also awarded the Captain Sam Schultz Memorial Scholarship and the Health and Human Development Alumni Society Student Service Award.

Lori Gravish Hurtack recently recieved the 2025 Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has guided and mentored hundreds of students and helped them navigate their way through their careers.
