Dr. Geoffrey Silvera is an Associate Professor of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He earned his PhD from Pennsylvania State University, from the Department of Health Policy and Administration within the College of Health and Human Development. Dr. Silvera's academic journey also includes a master's and bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. His research spans healthcare management, patient experience, healthcare quality, and diversity management. His research is focused on the role of healthcare organization strategic decision-makers play in patient care quality outcomes. He is dedicated to helping healthcare organizations to be more inclusive and patient-centric. His work has had a global impact, particularly in advancing patient experience and health equity. Before joining UAB, he held a faculty position at Auburn University and has been actively involved in leadership roles with the Health Care Management division of the Academy of Management. At UAB, he directs the Health Equity Leadership Academy and serves on editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals, including as Associate Editor for the Patient Experience Journal. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching college football, and coaching his son’s basketball team.
