Grants and Research Projects

Dissertation in progress:

  • Case Western Reserve University – Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences
  • Research area: Threat Assessment & Violence Risk Prediction
  • Title: The Lived Experience of the Clinician’s Role In the Threat Assessment of Violence Risk in Community Mental Health Center Clients

This dissertation will utilize the WHO typology of violence and will focus on interpersonal violence (including but not exclusively ASE’s) directed at acquaintances, friends, family members, romantic partners and strangers. This type of violence could occur in the private home, workplace or greater community. It will be mainly physical and psychological in nature though could encompass sexual violence. Deprivation and neglect, though acknowledged as forms of violence, will not be addressed in this dissertation. Of primary interest to the author is the investigation of the MHP’s cognitive processes and schemas used in assessing an individual with a mental illness who may become violent. The specific nature of violence is more contextual for the purposes of this dissertation.
