Avery is focused on peer relationships across childhood and adolescence, specifically peer influence on both prosocial and delinquent behaviors, as well as the application of developmental quantitative methods (social network techniques, intensive longitudinal data analysis). Her work intersects with the fields of prevention and intervention, researching peer factors that influence adolescent substance use.
