Professional Experience

Sonia Cavigelli conducts interdisciplinary research on the causes and consequences of individual differences in stress- and fear-related behavior and physiology. Recent work focuses on how early life stress experiences (during adolescence and earlier) affect adult anxiety- and depression-related behavior and physiology. We use animal models to conduct experimental longitudinal studies over a significant portion of the life span, and to identify underlying biological mechanisms altered by early stress.  A recent area of work has focused on the influence of developmental allergic asthma on the development of the brain (emotion-regulatory areas) and behavior.
