Interests

Mrs. Kubat's primary areas of clinical interest are in the areas of evaluation and treatment of aphasia, language and cognitive deficits secondary to traumatic brain injury, speech and voice deficits secondary to Parkinson’s disease, and pronunciation training for individuals who speak English as a second language. In addition, she has an interest in the supervision and training of graduate student clinicians, and developing community partnerships with the university.

Professional Experience

Mrs. Kubat has work experience in a number of settings, including public schools, universities, acute care hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, private practice, and skilled nursing facilities. Most recent appointments include clinical supervisor and instructor at Miami University (Ohio), and clinical assistant professor at Purdue University. She holds the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology.

Over the years, Mrs. Kubat has had involvement in a number of professional organizations including the Pennsylvania Speech and Hearing Association (PSHA), the Ohio Speech, Language and Hearing Association (OSLHA), and the Indiana Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ISHA). She co-chaired the Program Planning Committee for the 2013, 2014, and 2015 ISHA conferences. Mrs. Kubat is a member of the ASHA Special Interest Groups for Neurogenic Communication Disorders, Voice Disorders, and Administration and Supervision.

Penn State is collaborating with Parkinson Voice Project® to help people with Parkinson’s and related neurological disorders regain and retain their speech and swallowing.
