Transdisciplinary Research on Environment and Society (TREES)

The TREES dual-title graduate degree program prepares student researchers and designers to bring a broad base of state-of-the-art methodologies, theories, and technologies for addressing contemporary natural resource and societal challenges, including but not limited to challenges related to the following:

  • global climate change
  • sustainable energy, food, and fiber supplies
  • threats to biodiversity
  • water pollution and availability
  • genetic modification
  • sustainable design

TREES's philosophical foundation embraces the premise that solutions to such challenges require the integration of biophysical, sociodemographic, sociocultural, and historical dimensions.
