Building an integrated academic and career plan will help you choose courses and non-academic activities strategically, so you develop a coherent set of skills and knowledge that will prepare you well for a career.

Human Development and Family Studies students are often engaged in volunteering, extracurricular activities, and paid work in addition to their academic courses. The academic adviser is here to help you explore these opportunities and align them with your goals.

  • Identifying your goals:  Take time to determine your goals related to your education and career.  The General Career Guidance information can be helpful in navigating this step.
  • Choosing your courses: Select courses that will help you explore your interests.
  • Internship and research opportunities: Select hands-on experiences, including volunteer opportunities, internships, research experiences, or paid work, to further define your interests and build your skills.
