The following awards and recognitions are given on behalf of the Health Policy and Administration Department during the spring semester at the Annual Stanley P. Mayers Endowed Lecture.  

Association of University Programs in Health Administration’s Foster G. McGaw Scholarship

The AUPHA Foster G. McGaw Award is given to HPA residential and World Campus undergraduate students who demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and the potential to make an impact on the health care industry.

The Mockingbird Award in Memory of William H. Denton

The Mockingbird Award is given in memory of William H. Denton, an HPA student who passed away in January 2018. The Mockingbird Award recognizes residential and World Campus HPA students who have served as a role model for the Penn State community by engaging in activities that improve the welfare of others and increase awareness or enhance the understanding of a social injustice.

Francis Hoffman Writing Award

Faculty and/or students may nominate any paper written by any undergraduate student in the summer 2023, fall 2023 or spring 2024 for the award. Papers can include any paper written for a class, chapter of a thesis, article submitted for publication, or other forms of professional writing. Self-nominations are accepted. Nominations should be sent to Tom Knarr.

Marshall Raffel Student Showcase in HPA

The Marshall Raffel Student Showcase provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate Health Policy and Administration students to showcase their work.

Jennifer S. Cwynar Community Achievement Award

The Jennifer S. Cwynar Community Achievement Award is given in memory of Jennifer Cwyner, a HPA graduate who passed away in 2010. The award, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health, recognizes community achievement by a senior majoring in HPA who demonstrates service and commitment to a community or an underserved population(s), preferably, but not exclusively, in a rural area of Pennsylvania.

Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society

The National Honor Society of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) recognizes Penn State University Park students who achieve distinction in healthcare management and policy studies, or individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the health profession.

Given to a preceptor who is nominated by their intern during the duration of their internship.
