Edward Sim

About the speaker

Edward Sim

Edward Sim is Executive Vice-President and President, Acute Care Division at Universal Health Services (UHS), one of the nation’s largest and most respected providers of hospital and behavioral health services. As a corporate officer and senior leader of the $11B Acute Care Division, he drives strategy and operations across the UHS Acute Care portfolio, including UHS’ 30 Acute Care hospitals, 35 freestanding emergency departments (FEDs) and 30 ambulatory care centers. Sim is also responsible for Prominence Health Plan and over 1,000 employed physicians in Independence Physician Management. 

Prior to his role at UHS, Sim served as System Chief Operating Officer at Centura Health where he led the system’s three operating groups, clinical delivery and shared services. Centura was a $4.0B health system comprised of 19 hospitals in Colorado and Kansas. Other career highlights include leadership roles at Baptist Health, Tenet Health and The Advisory Board Company. Sim earned his MBA from Duke University, an MS in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from Albany Medical College and his BA in Economics from Boston University.

Sim will visit Penn State University Park from October 7-9 to share his industry experience and expertise with current students.

Darren and Ellen Lehrich HPA Executive in Residence Endowment

Thanks to a generous gift from Ellen and Darren Lehrich, the Department of Health Policy and Administration has established the Darren and Ellen Lehrich HPA Executive in Residence Endowment. This endowment allows the department to invite high-level leaders in the healthcare sector to Penn State University Park to share their industry experience, insights and expertise, and build connections with faculty and current students.

The Executive in Residence program bolsters the department's professional development initiatives, connecting students to healthcare executives and creating new paths to areas of the healthcare sector where there is a demand for talented recent graduates.
