What you'll learn

Coursework

Core coursework of the Systems Neuroscience major provides rigorous training in the field, broadly, and covers fundamental principles of neuroscience, including:

  • cellular and molecular neurobiology,
  • neuroanatomy, and
  • neurophysiology.

A particular focus of the coursework is how neural systems are involved in neurological dysfunction and disorders.

Supporting coursework allows you to focus on specific neural systems you are interested in, allowing you to tailor your degree to help meet your personal and professional goals. 

Augment your classroom experience

Students are also encouraged to pursue experiential, hands-on learning opportunities that enhance their coursework and classroom study of the brain and nervous system. These opportunities could include:

  • working in a neuroscience research lab,
  • shadowing professionals in clinical neurology or psychiatry, or
  • participating in internships in biotechnology.
