The BCL uses ELISA based immunoassays to provide precise and accurate quantification of biomarkers using commercially available kits. Analytes available for fully validated analysis, including internal and commercial QC, include stress hormones (e.g. cortisol, salivary alpha amylase), reproductive hormones (e.g. estradiol, testosterone, progesterone, dHEA, melatonin), cytokines (e.g. C reactive protein, IL-1 beta, IL-6, TNF-alpha), catecholamines (e.g. dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine), and metabolite (e.g. creatinine, uric acid).

ELISA assays are fully automated using three instruments:

BioTek precision XS microplate sample processor icon-olus-circle

The Precision XS Microplate Sample Processor provides automated 96-/384-well microplate liquid handling with a combination of single-channel sample processing, multi-channel pipetting and bulk reagent dispensing all in one compact instrument. Precision XS uses the intuitive Precision Power pc software to simplify programming of applications from hit picking to serial dilutions.

BioTek EL406 plate washer icon-olus-circle

The EL406 Plate Washer provides fast, full plate washing with three reagent dispensers in one instrument. Its multiple capabilities include syringe pump and peristaltic pump dispensers for washing and dispensing in standard assays and vacuum filtration protocols on a single platform.

BioTek Synergy 2 Multimode microplate reader icon-olus-circle

The Synergy 2 is BioTek’s high-performance multi-mode plate reader designed for the life science research and drug discovery markets. Its fluorescence detection system uses deep blocking filters and dichroic mirrors for the best level of performance in research and screening applications. The dedicated absorbance detection system is monochromator-based, providing the best level of flexibility in this read mode. And, by utilizing dedicated optical elements for each individual detection technique, Synergy 2 offers uncompromised performance and the lowest limits of detection.

Detection modes include Fluorescence Intensity, Fluorescence Polarization, Time-Resolved Fluorescence, AlphaScreen, Luminescence and UV-visible Absorbance. Its three broad-spectrum light sources have been chosen for optimal illumination and excitation in all applications.

The Synergy 2 is controlled by BioTek’s Gen5™ Reader Control and Data Analysis Software, is certified for HTRF®, DLR™ and LanthaScreen™, and is compatible with AlphaScreen assays.

To use this instrument please contact the BCL to gain access and schedule a time.

The BCL will work with investigators on pilot studies and new assay development.
