About the Award

The College of Health and Human Development Student Sustainability Leadership Award recognizes distinguished leadership in advancing global sustainable development goals (SDGs) while carrying out the College of Health and Human Development’s (HHD) efforts to maximize health, optimize quality of life, and enhance the human potential for all people and populations.

Our vision is that HHD will play a leadership role in sustainability at Penn State, in our community, and beyond by cultivating a sustainability culture among our students and graduating sustainability-conscious citizens. Penn State defines Sustainability as “the simultaneous pursuit of human health and happiness, environmental quality, and economic well-being for current and future generations.”

The award will be given with consideration of success in one or more of the following areas:

  • Sustainability in Service – This recognition rewards students for their efforts to implement
sustainability on campus or in the community.
  • Sustainability in Learning – This recognition rewards students for their efforts in incorporating sustainability into their academic experience through research, publication, or coursework advancing sustainability knowledge.
