Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)
Already earned your PSIA-AASI certification?
If you currently hold a PSIA-AASI certification and are interested in earning a Professional Snowsports Instruction Program Certificate, there is a pathway for you. After completing at least one course from Penn State (for example, RPTM 115 or 120) – you may apply for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). A successful PLA portfolio reflects the knowledge, skills, and experiences of a PSIA-AASI Level I, II, or III certified instructor and clearly demonstrates equivalent achievement of the learning outcomes of RPTM 215 (Level I), 315 (Level II), or 351 (Level III). This is done by submitting a portfolio documenting your learning and experience as a PSIA-AASI certified instructor. Successful applicants will receive 3 credits for the course associated with your certification level.
Once you have completed three credits at Penn State, you are welcome to apply for PLA credit. It normally takes 4-6 weeks to assess Prior Learning Assessment applications.
For more details on PLA portfolio requirements, template submission form, and guidelines, please contact Pete Allison (pra7@psu.edu).
