The Doctoral Minor in Human Resources and Employment Relations (HRER) is co-sponsored by the School of Hospitality Management (HM) and Labor and Employment Relations (LER).  The HM doctoral program is designed to prepare students to embody the HRER skills and expertise necessary to be effective leaders and improve employment relations within the hospitality industry.

Given the labor-intensive nature of the hospitality industry, all HM programs offer courses in the HR and ER at the bachelors and masters levels.  Thus, there is a demand for scholars who can have positive impact on theory and practice in these areas.  Academic training in HRER prepares HM doctoral students for positions as faculty and academic leaders in the human aspect of hospitality.  This unique background will enhance their prospects in the academic job market.

The Doctoral Minor is HRER requires students to complete 15 credits at the 500 or 800-course level.  Two core courses, HRER 504 Grad Seminar in Employment Relations and HRER 505 Grad Seminar in Human Resources, will be required.  The Doctoral Minor also requires one Graduate Faculty member from HRER to serve on the student's doctoral committee.
