Black Representation in Hospitality 2023

Fourth Annual Report Benchmarking Black Representation in Hotel Industry Leadership

The Penn State School of Hospitality Management released the 2023 “Black Representation in Hotel Industry Leadership” research report. This research was conducted with the support of the AHLA Foundation – a philanthropic organization that aims to inspire, support, and advance the hospitality workforce.

The results of this fourth annual report indicate that steady, but slow progress is being made toward diversifying the leadership ranks of hotel companies. This research report, funded by the AHLA Foundation, was conducted by a team of doctoral students, supervised by Phil Jolly, assistant professor of hospitality management at Penn State, and is based on a review of publicly available data on more than 6,000 hotel company leaders from 701 individual companies.
