Liability Insurance

All students planning to enroll in KINES 495B are required to procure professional liability insurance throughout their internship experience. This insurance will protect both you and your facility against a potential lawsuit. The minimum coverage plan required for this practice is 1M/3M coverage plan.  This covers you up to 1 million dollars against a single lawsuit, but up to 3 million dollars for other lawsuit claims.  If you are a student from a more affluent background in terms of financial status, it is strongly suggested to procure 2M/4M coverage plan for more protection.

The two most common sites to obtain professional liability insurance are proliability.com and hpso.com   For those students completing an allied health care internship, you may prefer utilizing proliability.com There are many categories to select your role.  The most common covered title is ”community health intern”.

As for students completing a non-allied health care internship (i.e. more fitness and wellness related), students often select hpso.com and select the title” kinesiology student” (with code:00000). NOTE:  Students completing allied health care internships are allowed to select hpso.com and select the role as ”kinesiology student”.  On either professional liability insurance website, do not select the role as ”Other”.  If you select this, it becomes very difficulty in receiving your approved certificate.

Quickest way to obtain the professional liability insurance certificate, which is required for your KINES 495B online application, is to use hpso.com  Insurance can be secured in less than one hour using this site.  Go to their website, create an account, complete professional liability insurance application, submit credit card information and then go back into your account an hour later to retrieve your certificate.
