In the College of Health and Human Development, we work to promote student success among our First-Generation students and spread awareness about the challenges they face.

Penn State defines “First-Generation student” as any student whose immediate parents or legal guardians have not completed a baccalaureate degree. Approximately one in four currently enrolled Penn State undergraduates identifies as first-generation, according to data collected during the admissions process.

Throughout the year, there will be a variety of events and actives for our First-Generation students.

The Student Success Center, in partnership with our colleagues in student affairs, academic affairs, and educational equity, work to provide specifically tailored resources and support that meet the needs of Penn State's First-Generation student population.
