Course details
Course details
| Course Details | The course consists of 16 modules, each 7.5 hours in length. The entire course totals 120 hours. |
| Cost | Indvidual modules: $200 Entire course: $2,900 |
| Schedule | Modules are scheduled on Fridays from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., meeting occasionally on Saturdays. The course is offered during both the fall and spring semester. |
| Enrollment Options | Participants can choose to sign up for the entire course or individual modules based on their needs. All modules are independent and do not need to be completed in a specific order. |
| Delivery Method | Modules are offered live via Zoom. |
Refund and cancellation
Participants will receive a full refund if a withdrawal request is received at least five days before the start of the module or course.
If the request is received within five days of the start date, a 50% refund will be issued.
No refunds will be given for no-shows or cancellations on the day of the module.

This module focuses on administration, organization, and management theories.

This module will address the nutritional needs of the elderly resident. Common eating/digestive problems will present the importance of assessment and corresponding treatment will be discussed.

This module will present regulations governing the internal and external physical environment of the long-term care facility. Topics include construction codes, Life Safety, and physical plant requirements. Additionally, the maintenance, environmental services, laundry, and central supply departments are reviewed.

This module focuses on the financial management of a long-term care facility and introduces basic accounting terms and theories.

This module presents the biological and psychosocial theories of the aging process. The stages of the death and dying process will be discussed at length.

This class will discuss pharmaceutical requirements of the elderly as well as regulations regarding safe drug and treatment administration. Other diagnostic services and components of the clinical record will also be presented.

This module focuses on the complete nursing care of the resident, utilizing a planned interdisciplinary process. Patient rights, confidentiality, and individualized needs of the resident are preserved. Staff communication skills and ethical behavior are promoted.

This module addresses personnel issues and labor relations in the long-term care setting. Performance appraisals, employee benefits, staff development, and communication skills are addressed.

This module assesses the preparation for surveys and inspections leading to accreditation. Standards of state and federal regulations are reviewed.

This module discusses the skilled therapy services of physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy. Recreation Therapy and the Activities Department are also addressed.

This module describes risk management in a long-term care facility. Liability and safety issues, insurance issues, and worker compensation issues will be presented.

This module discusses government involvement in establishing long-term care rules and regulations.

This module explores the regulations and role of social services in the long-term care facility. Available services to meet resident needs for family and community involvement are discussed.

This module will describe concepts of marketing and public relations in the long-term care facility. Defining and utilizing the mission statement and goal setting to develop a strategic plan will be presented.

In this module, Long-term care insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and private pay reimbursements are discussed with case presentations and the appeal process.

This module presents the understanding of compliance of state and federal regulations to prevent deficiencies. Material focuses on examples of citations and guidelines to develop an appropriate plan of action and discusses the importance of a quality assurance program to assist in the process.
