The Pauline Schmitt Russell Distinguished Research Career Award honors a faculty member in the College of Health and Human Development who has demonstrated ability to conduct original research; who has shown evidence of scholarly contributions to the literature over a major portion of his/her career; and who is universally recognized for major contributions to his/her field.

Consideration for this award shall be given to all tenured College of Health and Human Development full-time faculty members who

  • have been on the faculty for at least three years;
  • have demonstrated the ability to conduct original research;
  • have shown evidence of scholarly contributions to the literature over a major portion of his/her career; and
  • are universally recognized for major contributions to his/her field.

Each award shall be for one academic year. Further extraordinary accomplishments by a recipient may enable that recipient to be again considered for this award.

To submit a nomination, please complete the on-line nomination form and provide the following documentation:

  • One comprehensive support letter that details how the candidate's research contributions meet the award criteria. The letter should be signed by the department head and two other nominators.
  • Updated curriculum vitae
  • Summary of research from the candidate's career
  • A list of publications
  • Other information pertinent to the candidate's accomplishments.

(If a curriculum vitae is not submitted, the Dean's staff will provide documentation from Activity Insight for the nomination packet given to the selection committee.)

Recipients of this award shall be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Health and Human Development, or his/her designee.

Recipient will be notified early in the fall semester. A recognition gift and a monetary award will be presented to the recipient during the fall HHD Annual Awards Ceremony.

In addition, recipients will present a special lecture the fall semester of the following academic year.
