Discover the Art of Fly Fishing: Weekend Workshop 

Ready to dive into one of the most rewarding outdoor skills? Join us for an Introduction to Fly Fishing Weekend—a hands-on experience designed for beginners to introduce you to the sport!

Over two exciting days, you’ll learn:
Fly tying & knot tying
Casting techniques with a fly rod
Aquatic insect identification
Practical fly fishing on a local stream

Your mornings will be spent in the Joe Humphreys Fly Fishing Program classroom at Rec Hall, where expert instructors will guide you through the fundamentals. After lunch, we’ll head to a nearby stream to put your new skills into action!

No gear? No problem! We provide everything you need. Just bring a notebook, a pen, and your curiosity. By the end of the weekend, you’ll leave with a solid foundation in fly fishing.

Schedule for Both Days:

• 8:00 am – 12:00 pm: classroom instruction
• 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: lunch
• 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm: travel to stream and gear up
• 1:30 pm – 6:00 pm: assisted fishing on a local stream

About the Instructor:

Ashley Wilmont has been a fly fishing instructor and guide for over a decade. Some of her achievements are 2024 Women’s Overall National Champion in Idaho and individual ranking of 4th place in the 2024 FIPS-Mouche Ladies World Fly Fishing Championships in the Czech Republic. She directs Reel Girls, a national girls fly fishing program, and she is a longtime volunteer for Casting for Recovery Western PA, Project Healing Waters and Trout Unlimited. She has been an adjunct instructor for the PSU Joe Humphreys Fly Fishing Program since 2022.
