Student Spotlight - Johanna Beuerle
Johanna Beuerle is a senior majoring in nutritional sciences in the nutrition and dietetics track. She is the Community Service Chair for the Student Nutrition Association (SNA) for the 2025-26 academic year.
After participating as a member of the SNA, Johanna decided to run for the Community Service Chair position in the student organization to help members build the skills needed in their field, such as communication, leadership, and apply their nutrition knowledge to real-world issues. In this position, she will be responsible for planning and coordinating volunteer events that support community health and nutrition outreach.
The SNA is a student organization that connects students to community service opportunities, provides members with professional development and engagement activities to help prepare them for their professional careers, and allows students to create a supportive community in a fun and relaxed environment.
“I want [SNA] members to be more than attendees in our organization,” Johanna said. “They should take the time to get involved in meaningful nutrition-related community service and give back to our local communities.”
In addition to Johanna’s involvement with SNA, she is also a member of Penn State’s CHAARG (Changing Health, Attitudes, + Actions to Recreate Girls) Chapter. This student organization is a national health and fitness organization that empowers college women to build confidence through movement and nutrition. Members participate in weekly workouts, community events, and support each other in their health and wellness journeys.
Johanna has always been fascinated by how nutrition impacts athletic performance and has experienced that impact with her own race times improving with the nutrition guidance provided by her high school coach.
“That experience inspired me to pursue [nutritional sciences] so I can help athletes maximize their performance through effective nutrition guidance.”
She will be graduating in spring 2026 and plans to follow the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) career pathway to utilize her knowledge of performance nutrition to aid athletes in achieving their athletic and health goals.
“I am passionate about my future career because I love helping people feel their best through food. It is exciting to see how small changes in nutrition can lead to big improvements in health and well-being.”
