The Student Service Award recognizes service by a College of Health and Human Development student with service to the College of Health and Human Development, Penn State, and the community.

Eligibility

This award will be given to one baccalaureate degree student in the College of Health and Human Development. Candidates must:

  1. have at least sixth semester standing by spring semester of nominating year, and
  2. have maintained a 2.75 grade point average.

Purpose

The individual’s interests and actions enhance the College of Health and Human Development and its Alumni Society by promoting service to individuals, families, and communities and encouraging and fostering personal and professional development.

Criteria

The actions of the recipient of the Student Service Award exemplify the College of Health and Human Development's commitment to improving the quality of people's lives. This award focuses on service to others as a means of improving quality of life. The recipient may serve others in one or more of the following settings:

  • The College of Health and Human Development
  • Penn State
  • The community

The service may occur as part of the individual's participation in a service or nonprofit organization, or an entity, organization, or event of the recipient's own creation. The service shall occur within a field related to health or human development.

Nominating Procedure

The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations will receive the nominations and forward them to the Awards Committee of the HHD Alumni Society. Nominations may be made by students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Students may and are encouraged to nominate themselves.

The nomination/self-nomination shall consist of:

  1. Completed online application form 
  2. A rationale of why the nominee should be considered.
  3. Nominee's College of Health and Human Development activities.
  4. Nominee's Penn State activities.
  5. Nominee's community activities. 
  6. Nominee's awards and honors. 
  7. If this is a student self-nomination, the name and email address of one faculty or staff member who could serve as a reference to the selection committee is needed. This reference should be someone who could attest to the nominee’s outstanding service.

Selection Committee

The recipient of this award shall be selected by the Awards Committee of the College of Health and Human Development Alumni Society Board.

The Award

The recipient shall receive a life membership in the Penn State Alumni Association. The recipient will also receive a plaque, which will be presented at a ceremony during the spring meeting of the HHD Alumni Society Board.
